1. Probably the best half hour of television in the history of television is the Valentine’s Day episode of Happy Endings. Most of my current feelings about life come from that show – along with everything I know about Valentine’s Day. Alex describing the torture of St. Valentine: “they ripped him tip to taint.” Informative!!! I have it saved on my DVR, so if you ever want to watch it, come on over!
2. As far as sweet, sweet romance is concerned, I like simple and thoughtful over showy and complicated. I told Jimmy that flash mobs or anything involving hidden cameras are grounds for an immediate dumping. We just simple folk round these parts! SIMPLE FOLK!!! So for my VD Cookie, I submit these easy/breezy/japaneezy cut-outs. No frills, y’all.
3. I’ve made cut-outs before, but here’s your dang recipe:
1 sticka butter
1/2 cuppa sugar
A healthy splash of vanilla
1-1/2 cuppa flour
1/4 tsp salt (heap it!)
1/2 tsp baking soda
Mix and chill. Roll and cut. Bake 10 min at 350. Cool and decorate. I used a basic-b buttercream to decorate. It’s just 1 sticka melted butter and like 3 cups of powdered sugar. I mix in splashes of milk until I get it the right consistency. And pinch of salt, per Rita Volpi.
4. If you’re single on Valentine’s Day, listen up. Crying alone in the bathtub is acceptable. Don’t feel bad about that! But when you’re finished, make some cookies for your mom or your work friends or whomever. You’ll feel better, I promise. And here’s Max from Happy Endings (basically me).
