#103: Spritz Cookie Edible Wreath???

Hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi hi!

I just learned something real real upsetting about Christmas, y’all.  Have y’all seen The Nutcracker?  It’s about this girl who gets like dream-kidnapped by a nutcracker man and then he fights a rat king???  Well, rat kings are a real thing.  It’s what happens when a bunch of rats’ tails get tangled up and knotted and then all of these rats are stuck living together as one giant rat monster.  Click here to be terrified by RAT KINGS!

Anyway!  I was invited to participate in my first ever website listicle (that’s an online thing that’s more list than it is article!  LISTICLE!).  Anyway – the listicle topic is edible wreaths.  Truth be told – I’ve never even once thought about edible wreaths.  Never once!  But I sure do want to be in a listicle!  So I had a long hard think about wreaths and this is where I ended up.

Spritz tree cookies for an edible Christmas wreath?

LISTEN.  I KNOW!  But, these trees have faces and they’re super cute and I think it’s one of the best dang edible wreaths I ever did see!  Spritz cookie are quintessential Christmas cookies and you can literally house dozens of them while you sit at home alone on a Sunday afternoon watching Christmas movies and avoiding all other human interaction.  SPRITZ COOKIES ARE FOR WINNERS!

Ok! The spritz trees are super easy! It’s just 2 stick room temp butter, 1 cup gran sugar, 1 egg, 2-1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp salt and 2-1/2 cups flour.  Mix this junk and add in green food color. Chill for like a half hour / or maybe don’t chill it (maybe it’s better at room temp.  I don’t know!  You just need to do what’s best for you, champ!). Find a spritz gun and use the tree attachment. Blop out trees on a parchy-paper-lined tray and bake for 10 min at 350. PRO TIP: check for doneness at 8:30 to avoid over browning.
I added tree faces with some black frosting gel and plopped these guys on a ring of frosted brownies (NOTE – I pinched the brownie recipe from this Tara O’Brady thing). Decorate the wreath with whatever junk you have laying around the kitchen!
